How often have you come across a book with romantic overtones in every page and an ethereal quality in its prose.
Plot: Make no mistake, if you are a “hopeless romantic”, you will love this book. The story follows the lives of a young couple across and through a timespan of a generation. As the title mentions, the story is about a man who can time travel. How this is possible and what happens in his life and love life is the basic plot of this story. This book is narrated through two principal characters Henry and Clare. The protagonists. It is a love story in its true form, a man who ventures “outside”- outside the normal realms of time in this case. And his lady who is made to wait. She does so acceptingly, wetting her eyes quite often. This is a sory about the most beautiful pain in love- namely “Longing”.
Style: The language is inherently sweet. The chronology is all mixed up in time, as the hero travels through time back and forth. However, it is coherently and painstakingly well written. The concept of past, present and future. The vulnerability of memories. I personally found it engaging and rewarding. It is a tragedy of sorts, but all great love stories are.
Verdict: 4.75/5 (My wife wanted me to give it a perfect 10)
Quotable Quote: “Time, let me vanish. Then what we separate by our very presence can come together.”
